Embroidery

Another hobby of mine is different sorts of embroidery; cross stitch, blackwork and hardanger being the main ones.
Hardanger is a form of embroidery traditionally worked with white thread on white material.  There are many different stitches and techniques from simple satin stitches to decorative filling stitches and cut work.
Blackwork is a form of embroidery using black thread and sometimes coloured threads for accents. Historically, blackwork was used on shirts and chemises or smocks using counted stitches to make geometric or small floral designs.
Cross stitch is one of the oldest forms of embroidery.  It is a form of counted-thread embroidery in which x shaped stitches are made on even-weave material to form a pattern or picture.

  1. How lovely to see some traditional embroidery and you have produced some beautiful samples. Have you looked at the Royal School of Needlework web site? I think you would enjoy it.
